The United States backs Peru’s actions towards becoming an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member, U.S. Secretary of State Rex. W. Tillerson informed Tuesday.
In this sense, Tillerson noted the Inca country «has taken many measures to put itself in a very good position.»
Moreover, he remarked the North American country supports Peru’s participation in the United Nations Security Council.
«We know we’ll have a likeminded partner to consult with, to collaborate with on the important issues that will come before the Security Council,» he expressed.
Statements were made following a meeting with President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at Lima’s Government Palace on Tuesday.
According to Tillerson, the gathering also addressed the joint cooperation on transnational criminal organizations, as well as the countries’ commitments «to disrupting the illicit drug trade, narcotics trafficking, that is so detrimental to both Peru and to the United States.»
Trade Ties
The U.S. government official underscored the Peru-U.S. Free Trade Agreement has served both nations well, with trade having increased 60% over a five-year period.
