Deputy Chief of Mission at United States Embassy in Lima Mark Wells met with more than 100 leaders and representatives from Peruvian-American Institutes and Cultural Centers.
The meeting took place during the 23rd Convention of Binational Centers in Tarapoto city (San Martin region).
Such event is meant to forge the strategic alliance between said institutions and the U.S. Government. Peruvian-American Institutes and Cultural Centers (also known as Binational Centers) have sought to strengthen the bilateral relations between Peru and the United States.
The U.S. Embassy in Peru partners with these institutions to promote cultural and educational opportunities through English language learning and cultural activities.
Currently, there are 34 such centers throughout the Inca country offering cultural programs, educational projects, library services and college advising for U.S. higher education institutions.
Some Embassy-sponsored programs include English Plus, Access Program, College Horizon Outreach Program, Project Citizen, and EducationUSA, among others.
These Binational Centers are autonomous institutions that work in partnership with the Embassy. There are 8 umbrella institutions, each one with a central office and branches nationwide.
According to Wells, U.S.-related topics and contents provided at these centers bring added value to available services.
Held from August 31 to September 1, the convention is the perfect opportunity to harmonize the Embassy work with that of the Binational Centers.
