The new Ambassador of the United States to Peru Krishna Raj Urs has presented credential letters to President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday evening at Lima’s Government Palace, where the diplomat was joined by other Embassy officials.
Krishna R. Urs was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Peru on August 3, 2017.
The new envoy served in Lima between 1996 and 2000 as an economic officer at the U.S. Embassy.
He has also held diplomatic posts in Bangladesh, Bolivia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Spain, among other countries.
Mr. Urs is a 1980 graduate of Georgetown University, where he studied Latin American Politics and Economics at the Walsh School of Foreign Service. Likewise, he holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Texas (1985).
He speaks Spanish and Hindi. Mr. Urs replaces Brian A. Nichols, who had recently completed duties in the Inca country.
