The President of the Council of Ministers, Mercedes Aráoz, stressed the importance of conclusion of negotiations of the new Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), Which is part of the Peru and 10 other countries without US participation.
«Yesterday the TPP was agreed without the United States, but the other 11 countries have already agreed to have free trade between them, facilitating trade and investment, and helping each other, this is very important,» said the prime minister to participate in a round table Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, with Jack Ma, founder of Internet giant Alibaba.
In a clear reference to the United States, which withdrew from the original TPP, Araoz said that «some countries may think that reducing trade is good for them, but we are very pleased to have exchanges and cooperation, as most are in the area Peaceful».
According to the Pacific alliance, Composed of Peru, Chile, Mexico and Colombia, he said that it is growing and more countries would join. «Now there are only four (countries), but could soon be eight, for Canada, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand are likely to join the Pacific Alliance, this is important because each country can contribute their experience,» he said.
During the roundtable, the president and founder of Internet giant Alibaba, Jack Ma, urged «not to use trade as a weapon» because when trading stops «begins the conflict.»
Davos businessman participated in a panel discussion on the impact of electronic commerce in large corporations and smaller companies, along with Mercedes Araoz and the director of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Roberto Azevedo.
Ma defended in every way possible free trade, which has been imposed among other reasons because «it’s what they prefer young people, and they prefer the new generations is what triumphs».
He acknowledged that a few years ago «nobody gave a penny for e-commerce, no one could predict what would become the world».
However, he regretted that «government first thing people ask is how we can regulate, rather than think about how I can do.»
Araoz said allusion Ma and defended the work of his government to promote market flows, while praised the role of platforms such as Alibaba in Latin America, which has contributed to the spread of domestic products. «A Peruvian Government as it works through an open market,» he said.
The Prime Minister was in favor of facilitating the digitization of businesses, to offer more services and fewer barriers to internet pay taxes and get licenses or permits.
Thus, he noted that smaller players, small and medium enterprises, not be excluded from the market in favor of large corporations.
